Safeguarding Officer - Secondary School
Are you passionate about safeguarding young people and making sure every student feels safe, supported, and able to achieve their full potential?
We are working with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Milton Keynes that is looking to appoint a dedicated Safeguarding Officer to join its pastoral team from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in promoting student welfare and ensuring safeguarding remains at the heart of school life.
Working across Key Stages 3 and 4, you will support vulnerable students, work closely with families and external agencies, and help create a safe, positive learning environment where every young person can thrive.
The Role
- Supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in all aspects of safeguarding and child protection across the school.
- Identifying, recording, and responding to safeguarding concerns in line with statutory guidance and school policies.
- Working closely with students who may be vulnerable or at risk, providing appropriate support and early intervention.
- Liaising with parents, carers, social care, education services, and other external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for students.
- Maintaining accurate, confidential safeguarding records using the school's safeguarding systems.
- Monitoring attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, and welfare concerns, helping to remove barriers to learning.
- Promoting a strong safeguarding culture throughout the school and supporting staff with safeguarding guidance where appropriate.
- Contributing to the wider pastoral team to ensure students receive the support they need both inside and outside the classroom.
- The Ideal Candidate
- Has previous experience working in safeguarding, education, children's services, youth work, pastoral support, or social care.
- Has a good understanding of child protection legislation and Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
- Can build positive and trusting relationships with secondary-aged students and their families.
- Is calm, compassionate, resilient, and able to manage sensitive situations professionally.
- Has excellent communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills.
- Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Is committed to safeguarding, promoting student wellbeing, and helping every young person succeed.
