We are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Support Officers to join our partner secondary academies across Sheffield. These roles are ideal for individuals with a background in youth work, education, social care, or mental health support who are looking to step into or continue a career in pastoral care within education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily emotional, behavioural and social support to students.
  • Work closely with Heads of Year, SENCOs, safeguarding leads and teaching staff.
  • Support students with attendance, punctuality, and engagement in learning.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner.
  • Build trusted relationships with students, parents/carers and external agencies.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture focused on wellbeing and success.

We’re looking for candidates who

  • Have experience working with young people in a pastoral, mentoring, or support capacity.
  • Understand safeguarding procedures and the importance of confidentiality.
  • Possess excellent communication, empathy, and resilience.
  • Can handle sensitive situations with care, professionalism and discretion.
  • Are proactive, organised, and committed to making a difference.

Desirable but not essential

  • Experience in a school or academy setting
  • Knowledge of safeguarding frameworks and SEND
  • Relevant qualifications in youth work, counselling, or mental health
