About the role As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will play an important role in supporting pupils who may experience behavioural, emotional or social difficulties that can affect their engagement with education. Working closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team, you will provide consistent, positive and targeted support to help pupils manage their behaviour, build confidence and re-engage with learning. Your responsibilities may include: Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with behavioural and pastoral needs. Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and acting as a consistent role model. Supporting pupils to understand and manage their emotions and behaviour. Helping students develop strategies to regulate their behaviour and make positive choices. Supporting pupils to remain engaged in lessons and access their education successfully. Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team to implement behaviour strategies. Responding calmly and appropriately to challenging behaviour and potentially difficult situations. Helping pupils develop their social skills, resilience, confidence and independence. Monitoring pupil progress and feeding back to relevant members of staff. Contributing to a positive, safe and inclusive school environment. Providing encouragement and maintaining high expectations, while recognising individual pupil needs. Essential experience - education background required Please note: only applicants who have previous experience working within schools or the education sector will be considered for this position. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience supporting secondary-aged pupils across KS3 and KS4 and who understand the challenges that young people can face within an educational setting. Experience working with pupils who display challenging behaviour is highly desirable. Experience within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Alternative Provision (AP) setting or SEN provision would be highly advantageous and is particularly sought after for this position. You will need to be confident supporting young people who may present with challenging behaviour and be able to remain patient and professional in demanding situations. Most importantly, you should be passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to education and providing them with the support they need to succeed.
