The school supports pupils who may have autism, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs, learning difficulties, sensory needs and challenging behaviour.
As a Nurture Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn. You will provide individualised support to pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, both in the classroom and within nurture or intervention spaces. Your work will focus on building strong, trusting relationships, supporting emotional regulation, promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills.
Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, therapists and pastoral staff, you will help to deliver structured learning activities and targeted interventions that meet pupils' individual needs. You may also support with communication strategies, sensory activities, behaviour support plans, personal care and transitions throughout the school day.
The ideal candidate will be patient, calm and adaptable, with a genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEND. Previous experience in an SEN school, specialist provision, alternative provision, care setting, youth work or mentoring role would be beneficial. Experience supporting pupils with autism, SEMH or complex behaviour is particularly desirable, although applicants with transferable skills and the right approach are encouraged to apply.
To be considered, you should have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, a positive and proactive attitude, and a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. An enhanced DBS on the Update Service is desirable; however, Tradewind Recruitment can support successful applicants through the application process where needed.
In return, Tradewind Recruitment offers competitive rates of pay, ongoing professional development, dedicated support from an experienced education consultant and access to a range of rewarding SEN opportunities across Northampton.
