Tradewind Recruitment is working with a range of inclusive and supportive schools across Northampton and the surrounding areas to recruit British Sign Language (BSL) Specialist Teaching Assistants. These opportunities are ideal for passionate individuals who are committed to supporting deaf and hearing-impaired pupils to access education in a meaningful and inclusive way.
The majority of roles will support primary-aged pupils, however we also work with schools seeking support at secondary level, so applicants with experience across either age range are encouraged to apply. Placements may be short-term, long-term, or ongoing depending on school requirements and your availability.
The Role:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support using British Sign Language
- Support pupils with communication, learning, and social interaction
- Adapt classroom materials to meet individual communication needs
- Encourage independence and inclusion within the classroom environment
- Work closely with teachers, SEND staff, and external professionals
- Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and wider school activities
The Ideal Candidate:
- Holds BSL Level 2 or above (Level 3 desirable)
- Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children or young people
- Previous experience in an educational or SEND setting is beneficial but not essential
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for inclusive education
