We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Outdoor Learning Lead to develop and deliver high-quality outdoor education across the academy. You will lead our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme, Forest School provision, and wider outdoor enrichment opportunities. This is a key role in enhancing pupils' learning, wellbeing, and personal development through meaningful outdoor experiences. You will also support staff to embed outdoor learning across the curriculum and develop pupil leadership within outdoor provision.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the school's outdoor learning strategy in line with curriculum priorities
- Oversee the OPAL programme including planning, delivery, evaluation, and improvement
- Develop and maintain outdoor learning spaces to maximise engagement and wellbeing
- Plan and deliver a high-quality Forest School programme
- Design and run outdoor enrichment clubs and activities
- Support staff in embedding outdoor learning across subjects
- Develop an outdoor learning programme for early years and under 5s (community focused)
- Lead pupil leadership initiatives linked to outdoor learning and environmental responsibility
- Ensure full compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and risk assessment procedures
- Manage resources, equipment, and budgets linked to outdoor provision
- Monitor and evaluate impact on pupil engagement, wellbeing, and development
- Contribute to wider school priorities including enrichment and personal development
Requirements
Essential:
- Experience delivering outdoor learning (e.g. Forest School, OPAL or similar)
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and health & safety in outdoor settings
- Experience working with children in an educational setting
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging activities for a range of ages
- Strong organisational and communication skills
Desirable:
- Forest School qualification
- First Aid qualification
- Experience carrying out risk assessments
- Experience developing pupil leadership or enrichment programmes
- Experience working with external partners or community organisations
- Experience running clubs or extra-curricular activities
