About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be working in exclusive partnership with a progressive, nurturing specialist school in the Lytham area. We are seeking a passionate and resilient Mathematics Teacher to join their dedicated team starting in September. This specialised provision caters to secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The school prides itself on creating a calm, structured, and inclusive environment where every student is supported to re-engage with education, build emotional resilience, and achieve their full academic potential.

As the Maths Teacher, you will deliver tailored, creative, and accessible mathematics lessons (ranging from functional skills up to GCSE level) designed to meet the unique learning profiles of your students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, differentiated maths lessons tailored to students with SEMH and ASC needs.
  • Foster a positive, low-stress, and structured classroom environment that promotes proactive behaviour management and emotional regulation.
  • Adapt the national curriculum to make mathematics practical, relatable, and accessible for learners who may have experienced educational disengagement.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary support teams, including SENCOs, speech and language therapists, and pastoral care staff.
  • Track academic progress and personal development milestones, setting realistic and empowering targets for individual learners.
  • Build strong, trusting professional relationships with students, parents, carers, and external agencies.

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (e.g., QTLS) with a relevant Mathematics specialism.
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching Mathematics at secondary level, ideally within an SEN, SEMH, or ASC specialist setting (or mainstream experience with a strong, demonstrable passion for inclusive/special needs education).
  • Skills: Exceptional behaviour management strategies rooted in de-escalation, empathy, and therapeutic approaches.
  • Attributes: High emotional intelligence, resilience, patience, and a genuine commitment to improving the life chances of vulnerable young people.
