Tradewind Recruitment is working with welcoming and well-regarded secondary schools in Brent that are seeking a Welfare Officer to join their pastoral and safeguarding teams on a full-time, long-term basis, starting ASAP. This is a vital role at the heart of the school, supporting students' physical and emotional wellbeing and ensuring a safe, supportive environment.

Welfare Officer - Role Overview

As a Welfare Officer, you will play a key role in supporting students across KS3 and KS4 by managing day-to-day health, first aid, and wellbeing needs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing first aid support to students and responding to medical incidents in line with school policies
  • Supporting students who are unwell, injured, or experiencing emotional distress during the school day
  • Managing the school medical room and maintaining accurate medical and welfare records
  • Administering medication in line with parental consent and safeguarding procedures
  • Liaising with parents/carers regarding student illness, injury, or ongoing medical needs
  • Working closely with safeguarding leads, pastoral teams, SENCOs, and attendance staff
  • Supporting students with ongoing health conditions, anxiety, or emotional regulation needs
  • Monitoring student wellbeing and escalating concerns appropriately
  • Upholding safeguarding responsibilities and following school policies at all times
Requirements
  • Valid First Aid qualification (Essential)
  • Previous experience working in a school setting (Essential)
  • Experience supporting children or young people with medical, emotional, or welfare needs
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Calm, professional, and reassuring manner
  • Ability to build trust with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
