Tradewind Recruitment is working with Kelmscott School, an inclusive and welcoming secondary school in Walthamstow, to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant / Keyworker to provide targeted academic and pastoral support to a small group of approximately 10 students.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Learning Mentor who enjoys building positive relationships with young people and helping them develop the confidence, independence and skills needed to succeed in school.
The Role
The successful candidate will work with a designated group of approximately 10 secondary-aged students, providing consistent support across a range of curriculum subjects. The position combines general classroom assistance, targeted intervention and keyworker responsibilities, helping students overcome barriers to learning and make meaningful academic progress.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting approximately 10 identified students across the secondary curriculum.
- Providing individual and small-group interventions to reinforce classroom learning.
- Supporting students with literacy, numeracy and general academic development.
- Working alongside subject teachers to help students access lessons, understand tasks and complete work.
- Building positive relationships with students and encouraging confidence, engagement and independence.
- Monitoring student progress and sharing relevant feedback with teaching and support staff.
- Providing consistent encouragement and pastoral support to help students remain engaged in their learning.
- Adapting support to meet the differing needs and abilities of individual students.
Although the role may develop to include additional Maths intervention, a specialist Maths background is not essential at this stage. The initial focus is on providing well-rounded academic support across the curriculum.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience working with secondary school students, ideally as a Teaching Assistant, Keyworker, Learning Mentor or Intervention Assistant.
- Is confident supporting learning across a variety of subjects at KS3 and/or KS4.
- Has strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- Can establish positive, professional relationships with young people.
- Is patient, adaptable, conscientious and a confident communicator.
- Can encourage students to become more independent learners.
- Works cooperatively with teachers, the SENCO and wider school support teams.
- Has experience supporting students with additional learning needs or delivering academic interventions, which would be advantageous.
