Tradewind Recruitment is delighted to work with a highly regarded boys’ secondary school in Southwark to appoint an exceptional Head of English on a permanent, full‑time basis from September.

Role

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for English across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, implementing effective intervention strategies where required.
  • Support, coach and develop members of the English team.
  • Drive improvements in attainment, progress and student outcomes.
  • Lead curriculum planning, assessment and quality assurance within the department.
  • Ensure high‑quality teaching practices are embedded across the team.
  • Contribute to whole‑school leadership initiatives and improvement planning.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, inclusion and continuous improvement.

Qualifications Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • A degree in English or a closely related subject.
  • Evidence of successful middle or senior leadership experience within an English department.
  • Strong knowledge of the English curriculum and assessment frameworks.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.

Salary and Contract

  • Salary: London MPS/UPS. M1‑M6 salaries are aligned to experience within the Main Pay Range. Teachers typically progress annually from M1 through to M6; UPS requires formal application. TLR payments are made for agreed, sustained additional duties outside of regular teaching.
