We are recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Liverpool. This is an exciting opportunity to work with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, working closely with teachers and the school's pastoral team to create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs both inside and outside the classroom.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with students.
- Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans.
- Encouraging engagement, confidence, and independence.
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals.
- Helping to create a calm, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain positive and professional in challenging situations.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience in education, youth work, residential care, mentoring, coaching, social care, or similar support roles is highly desirable.
