About the Role

We are seeking a resilient, enthusiastic and compassionate PE Teacher to join our dedicated team within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people who require additional support to re-engage with education. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality Physical Education lessons that promote confidence, teamwork, resilience and positive wellbeing. You will work with students who may present social, emotional and behavioural needs, helping them achieve both academically and personally through sport and physical activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons tailored to the needs and abilities of students within the PRU setting.
  • Use sport and physical activity as a tool to build self-esteem, resilience and positive behaviour.
  • Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Manage behaviour effectively using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to individual support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, support staff, parents/carers and external agencies.
  • Promote safeguarding and student wellbeing at all times.
  • Organise enrichment activities, sports events and intervention programmes where appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching PE at secondary level.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable young people.
  • Experience working within a PRU, alternative provision or SEND setting is desirable but not essential.
  • A calm, patient and adaptable approach.
  • A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and student development.
