About the role
Tradewind Recruitment is supporting a primary school based in the Lambeth area who require a School Caretaker / Premesis Assistant on a temporary contract basis, starting after May half term. This would be a full-time, temporary contract until July 2026. Hours are typically structured around the school day, including early morning opening and late afternoon closing.
As a School Caretaker, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and security of the school site. This includes opening and closing the building, carrying out minor repairs and maintenance, managing deliveries, ensuring communal spaces and outdoor areas are clean and safe, and supporting the preparation of rooms for events. You will work closely with the headteacher and business manager to prioritise tasks, liaise with contractors and ensure the site complies with health and safety regulations.
What we are looking for:
- Previous experience as a school caretaker, site manager or in a similar facilities role
- Practical maintenance skills including minor repairs, plumbing and joinery (basic level)
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to a school or public building environment
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to manage a varied workload
- Physical fitness to carry out manual tasks and manage the site effectively
- DBS clearance or willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check
- A reliable, flexible and proactive approach to site management
