We are working with a well-established secondary school in Newham who are looking to appoint a dedicated and organised HR Assistant to join their busy HR team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR Administrator or HR Assistant looking to develop their career within a supportive school environment.
The Role
As HR Assistant, you will provide effective administrative support across the full employee lifecycle, ensuring HR processes are delivered accurately, efficiently and confidentially. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing day-to-day administrative support to the HR team
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR systems
- Supporting with recruitment and onboarding of new staff
- Preparing contracts, offer letters and other HR documentation
- Coordinating pre-employment checks, including DBS and right-to-work checks
- Maintaining records relating to safeguarding and safer recruitment
- Assisting with staff absence, sickness and leave administration
- Supporting with payroll-related administration and ensuring information is accurate
- Responding to HR queries from staff and providing a professional first point of contact
- Assisting with the organisation of staff training and maintaining training records
- Supporting the HR team with employee relations matters and HR processes
- Producing reports and maintaining HR spreadsheets and databases
- Ensuring all HR records and information are handled with a high level of confidentiality
- Supporting wider school administration when required
About You
The successful candidate will be an organised, proactive and approachable HR professional who is confident working in a busy environment. You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working in an HR Assistant or HR Administrator role
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Good knowledge of HR administration and the employee lifecycle
- Experience handling confidential information
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office and Excel
- The ability to prioritise a varied workload and meet deadlines
- A professional and approachable manner
- The ability to work effectively with staff at all levels
Previous experience within a school or education setting would be highly desirable, although candidates with strong general HR administration experience will also be considered.
