We are seeking an inspiring Early Years Leader to guide a vibrant Reception Department and shape the very first chapter of pupils' learning journeys within a highly regarded independent preparatory school in North London (Camden). This is a rare opportunity to lead a dedicated EYFS team, champion outstanding EYFS practice, and create a joyful, nurturing environment where curiosity and confidence thrive.
As Head of Reception, you will play a pivotal role in driving high-quality teaching and learning, supporting colleagues, and ensuring every child feels known, valued, and excited to come to school each day. Alongside leadership responsibilities, you will hold a full Reception class teaching timetable, modelling exceptional classroom practice and helping pupils build strong foundations into Year 1 and beyond. The school is a thriving and successful selective preparatory school for children aged 4-13, offering a high-calibre education within a happy, energetic and supportive community. Ideal candidates will be based in Camden for ease of travel.
Responsibilities- Lead the Reception Department and shape EYFS practice across the year group.
- Provide high-quality teaching and learning, model best practice in the classroom, and maintain a full Reception teaching timetable.
- Support colleagues, oversee the development of EYFS staff, and foster a nurturing environment where children are known, valued, and excited to attend school.
- Collaborate with Senior Leadership and other year groups to ensure smooth progression into Year 1 and beyond.
- Experience in Early Years leadership or senior teaching roles within an EYFS setting.
- Strong understanding of EYFS curriculum, assessment, and safeguarding.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team; commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.
- Based in Camden or willing to relocate to ease travel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
