Can you turn a recipe into a life lesson? We are seeking a resilient, creative, and trauma-informed Food Technology Teacher to join our specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Blackpool. At our school, Food Tech is more than just a subject; it is a vital therapeutic tool. Whether it’s a Year 2 student discovering where vegetables grow or a Year 9 student mastering the precision of a roux, you will be providing these young people with the life skills, confidence, and sensory regulation they need to succeed.

The Role

  • Creative Curriculum: Deliver engaging, hands-on Food and Nutrition lessons across KS1, KS2, and KS3.
  • Small Group Impact: Work with small classes (typically 5-8 pupils) supported by experienced Teaching Assistants.
  • Nurturing Environment: Use cooking as a medium to build rapport, de-escalate anxiety, and celebrate small wins.
  • Growth: Manage and maintain our dedicated Food Tech space, ensuring a safe and inspiring environment for all.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) – experience in Food Technology is essential.
  • SEMH Experience: Previous experience with SEMH, ASD, or ADHD is highly desirable; we welcome mainstream teachers with a "heart for SEN" and a patient, unflappable nature.
  • Adaptability: The ability to pivot a lesson plan based on the emotional "temperature" of the room.
  • Passion: Someone who believes that every child, regardless of their background or challenges, deserves a seat at the table.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive Pay: We value expertise. We pay up to UPS for the right candidate, plus a generous SEN allowance.
  • Work-Life Balance: A supportive leadership team that prioritises staff well-being and provides dedicated PPA time.
  • Professional Development: Specialist training in trauma-informed practice, Team-Teach, and therapeutic educational approaches.
  • The Blackpool Community: Join a school at the heart of its community, making a tangible difference in the lives of local families.
