As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students who require additional behavioural, emotional, or pastoral support. Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral leaders, and families, you will help create a positive and supportive environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group behavioural support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and personal development
  • Support students in managing their behaviour and making positive choices both inside and outside the classroom
  • Assist with the implementation of behaviour support plans and targeted interventions
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and parents to support student progress
  • Help de-escalate challenging situations using calm and effective behaviour management techniques
  • Monitor and record student behaviour, attendance, and progress accurately
  • Support students in reflection rooms, intervention spaces, or alternative learning environments where required
  • Promote resilience, self-confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning

Who we're looking for

  • Experience working with young people in schools, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, care, or alternative education settings
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour management
  • The ability to remain resilient and professional when supporting students with challenging behaviours
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them achieve success
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential for candidates with suitable experience
