Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to work within Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and alternative provisions across Chesterfield on a supply basis. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, social, or additional learning needs. Working across a trust of schools and alternative provisions, you will play a key role in helping pupils re-engage with education, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes.
As a Supply PRU Teaching Assistant, no two days will be the same. You may work across a variety of settings, supporting pupils in small groups, one-to-one interventions, or within specialist classrooms.
The Role
- Support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning.
- Support behaviour management strategies and promote positive outcomes.
- Work on a one-to-one basis or with small groups of students.
- Encourage pupil engagement, attendance, and personal development.
- Work flexibly across multiple schools and provisions within the trust.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work, care, coaching, or support setting.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- The ability to remain professional in challenging situations.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience within a PRU, alternative provision, SEN setting, youth offending service, residential care, or similar environment would be highly advantageous but is not essential.
