Tradewind Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Bury for an experienced Pastoral Manager to join their dedicated pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and experienced education professional to make a real difference to the lives of young people.

This is a full-time position with an immediate start, offering the chance to join a well-established pastoral and safeguarding team. The successful candidate will begin ASAP and continue in the role on a long-term basis from September, providing consistency and ongoing support for students throughout the new academic year.

About the Role

As a Pastoral Manager, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and safeguarding across the school. You will work closely with students, families, teaching staff and external agencies to ensure pupils receive the support they need to thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing pastoral support to students across a designated year group or key stage.
  • Managing behaviour and attendance concerns, implementing appropriate interventions where required.
  • Working closely with safeguarding, SEND and senior leadership teams to support vulnerable students.
  • Building positive relationships with parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Supporting students with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to safeguarding and pastoral meetings.
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive and supportive school environment.
Person Specification

Please note: Only applicants with previous experience working within schools and education will be considered.

To be successful in this role, you must have previous experience working within a Pastoral Team, Safeguarding Team or SEND Team in a secondary school. Applications from candidates without relevant secondary school experience will not be considered.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a role such as:

  • Head of Year
  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Pastoral Manager
  • Behaviour Manager
  • Inclusion Manager
  • Or a similar pastoral leadership position within a secondary school

You should have:

  • A thorough understanding of safeguarding procedures and statutory guidance.
  • Experience supporting young people with behavioural, emotional or additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain calm, resilient and professional in challenging situations.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
