Chemistry Graduate Teaching Assistant - Role Overview

  • Supporting students in Chemistry and Science lessons, including practical and theory-based activities.
  • Working with small groups and 1:1 to raise attainment and build confidence, particularly in GCSE Chemistry.
  • Assisting teachers with lesson delivery, practical experiments, resources, and classroom management.
  • Providing targeted support for students with additional learning needs or SEN.
  • Helping students with homework, coursework, and exam preparation.
  • Encouraging engagement, participation, and positive behaviour in lessons.
  • Supporting practical lessons, including preparation and supervision of experiments (training provided).
  • Supervising or covering classes when required.

Requirements

  • A degree in Chemistry or a closely related science.
  • A strong interest in education and supporting young people.
  • Confidence supporting KS3 and KS4 Science/Chemistry content.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, patient, and supportive approach.
  • Previous experience working with young people or in a school setting is desirable but not essential.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
