About the Role

Are you a rugby player, sports coach, or athlete looking to transition your skills into a rewarding career in education? We are seeking a motivated, resilient, and energetic Unqualified Teaching Assistant to join a specialised educational setting in Blackpool. This role is perfect for individuals with a strong sporting background who want to break into the education sector, using their leadership, discipline, and teamwork skills to support and mentor young people. You do not need previous classroom experience or a teaching assistant qualification. We value your ability to build rapport, command respect, and act as a positive, grounded role model for students who find traditional learning a challenge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom & Practical Support: Assist the class teacher in managing the learning environment, supporting students both inside the classroom and during practical outdoor or sports activities.
  • Behaviour Mentoring: Use a calm, firm, and fair approach to manage challenging behaviours, helping students stay focused, motivated, and engaged.
  • Building Connections: Act as a relatable mentor for young people, helping them develop resilience, emotional regulation, and teamwork through the values of sport.
  • Small Group Intervention: Work 1-to-1 or with small groups of students who require extra attention, guidance, or emotional support.

What We Are Looking For

  • Sporting Background: Active experience in rugby, football, martial arts, fitness coaching, or a similar team sport environment where discipline and leadership are key.
  • Resilience & Presence: High emotional intelligence, a calm demeanour under pressure, and the confidence to handle challenging situations with mutual respect.
  • Passion for Mentoring: A genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable youth or those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Logistics: A reliable work ethic, strong communication skills, and a clean enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).

What We Offer

  • The Perfect Foot in the Door: An ideal entry-level route into education without requiring formal prior qualifications.
  • Professional Training: Access to specialised CPD, including positive behaviour management (e.g., Team Teach) and trauma-informed practice.
  • Great Work-Life Balance: Working hours are standard school day times (Monday to Friday), term-time only, giving you evenings, weekends, and school holidays free.
  • A Supportive Team: Work within a tight-knit, collaborative staff group that values practical skills and diverse backgrounds.

How to Apply

If you are ready to trade the pitch for the classroom and use your sporting mindset to inspire young people in Blackpool, we want to hear from you. To Apply: Please submit your CV highlighting your sports background, coaching experience, or any work you have done with youth.
