About Us

Tradewind are working with a dedicated Alternative Provision based in Blackburn, committed to supporting young people who thrive outside of a mainstream school environment. Our mission is to re‑engage students, build their confidence, and provide them with the social, emotional, and academic skills they need to succeed. They are looking for passionate, resilient, and empathetic Teaching Assistants to join their team for the upcoming academic year.

The Role

In this role, you won't just be helping with classwork—you will be a mentor, a role model, and a consistent, supportive figure in our students' lives. Working five days a week, you will build strong, trusting relationships that help break down barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with diverse needs, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and ADHD.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities and managing classroom dynamics.
  • De‑escalate challenging behaviours using positive reinforcement and nurturing strategies.
  • Boost student confidence, helping them develop both academically and socially.
  • Collaborate with a supportive team of teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure the well‑being of every student.

About You

We are looking for individuals who genuinely want to make a difference. You don't need a lifetime of classroom experience, but you do need the right attitude.

Requirements

  • Resilience and Patience: The ability to stay calm, positive, and professional during challenging moments.
  • Strong Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to connect with vulnerable young people.
  • Reliability: Commitment to a full‑time, Monday‑to‑Friday schedule for the full 12‑month contract.
  • Experience (Preferred but not essential): Backgrounds in youth work, sports coaching, care, or prior school support are highly valued.

Note: An enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.

What We Offer

  • A highly rewarding role where no two days are the same.
  • A welcoming, collaborative, and deeply supportive team environment.
  • Ongoing training and professional development in behaviour management and SEND support.
  • The stability of a guaranteed 12‑month contract.
