We are working with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in South East Birmingham that is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their pastoral team from September on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance, helping them to remain engaged in education and achieve their potential.

Responsibilities

  • As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students who have social, emotional and behavioural needs, providing tailored support to help them succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Supporting students with social, emotional and behavioural challenges, including those from vulnerable or disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and personal development.
  • Providing support to students outside of lessons when they are experiencing difficulties or require time away from the classroom.
  • Using a restorative approach to resolve conflict, rebuild relationships and re-engage students with their learning.
  • Identifying patterns of behaviour and proactively intervening to prevent issues from escalating.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral leaders, SEND teams and parents/carers to implement effective support strategies.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, resilience and emotional wellbeing across the school.
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • We are looking for someone who: Has experience working with young people in a school, youth work, mentoring, care or similar setting.
  • Is calm, patient and resilient, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting students with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Can confidently manage challenging situations using a positive and restorative approach.
  • Is proactive, observant and able to recognise when early intervention is needed.
  • Can work effectively as part of a supportive pastoral team.
