I'm currently working with a lovely, well-regarded primary school in Richmond who are looking for an Assistant Director of Music to join them on a temporary basis, with the hope this could become permanent from September.

They need someone ASAP (ideally latest start 23rd February), though there is some flexibility for the right person.

The role at a glance:

  • Full school day: 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • Temporary until 3rd July, with potential to go permanent
  • Paid to scale (Teacher pay scale 25/26)
  • Teaching around 22 x 35-minute lessons per week
  • Teaching Years 3-8
  • Morning ensembles 8:30-9:00am
  • Lunchtime music 12:30-1:00pm
  • Some general cover may be needed from time to time

What they're looking for:

  • You don't need QTS - they're really after a strong all-round musician
  • A confident pianist who can sight-read and play by ear
  • Someone comfortable with classical music, with flexibility across styles (jazz/pop useful too)
  • Happy teaching classes as well as leading ensembles and performances

What you'd be doing:

  • Teaching curriculum music across Years 3-8
  • Accompanying choirs, soloists, services and school productions
  • Leading at least one choir and one larger ensemble
  • Helping with concerts, workshops and performances (including setting up orchestra)
  • Being part of a busy, positive and well-supported music department

The Director of Music is genuinely great to work with and very supportive, and the school has a strong music culture.
