PE Teacher / Instructor (Alternative Provision) Location: Accrington, Lancashire Start Date: ASAP Contract Type: Full-Time / Long-Term Supply Salary: Competitive (Dependent on Experience) About the Role: Tradewind Recruitment is currently working with a progressive and supportive Alternative Provision (AP) in the Accrington area. They are looking for a dedicated and resilient PE Teacher / Instructor to start ASAP. In this role, you will be working closely with secondary-aged students who have struggled within mainstream education, many of whom have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or challenging behaviour. Your goal will be to use physical education, sports, and outdoor activities as a vehicle to build confidence, teamwork, and engagement, helping young people re-engage with learning and positive life choices. Key Responsibilities: Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and adaptive PE lessons tailored to students with diverse learning and behavioural needs. Promote positive behaviour management, emotional regulation, and social skills through sport and structured physical activities. Create a safe, structured, and encouraging environment where disengaged students feel valued and motivated to participate. Track student progress, manage classroom dynamics effectively, and work collaboratively with pastoral support teams. Build strong, professional rapport with students to mentor them and support their holistic development. The Ideal Candidate: Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), a relevant Sports/PE degree, or strong verifiable experience working as a PE Instructor/Sports Coach. Previous experience working within an Alternative Provision (AP), Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), or with students displaying SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs. Highly resilient, patient, empathetic, and adaptable with a natural flair for managing challenging behaviors. Passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable and hard-to-reach young people.
