School Cook - Specialist SEMH SettingLocation: Milton Keynes

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an experienced and reliable School Cook to work within a specialist school supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school takes a trauma-informed approach, so it is important that the successful candidate understands how trauma can affect children's behaviour, communication and relationships. The role may involve interacting with pupils, so previous experience working in a trauma-informed, SEMH or similar specialist setting is highly desirable. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who can combine strong catering skills with a calm, patient and understanding approach to supporting young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve fresh, nutritious and appealing meals for pupils and staff.
  • Cater for a range of dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances, following strict food safety procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, kitchen cleanliness, stock control and safe food storage.
  • Plan menus that are balanced, varied and suitable for pupils' individual dietary and sensory needs.
  • Manage food ordering, stock rotation, portion control and food waste.
  • Complete food safety, temperature and allergen records accurately.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff to ensure dietary requirements are understood and followed.
  • Maintain a calm, welcoming and organised environment when working around pupils who may have experienced trauma or find school challenging.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has previous experience working as a School Cook, Catering Cook or in a similar catering role.
  • Holds a Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene qualification or above.
  • Has a strong understanding of food allergies, allergen management and cross-contamination prevention.
  • Has experience working around children or young people with SEMH needs, ideally within a trauma-informed setting.
  • Is patient, approachable, organised and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Understands the importance of consistency, routine and positive relationships when supporting vulnerable pupils.

What We Offer

  • A temporary opportunity for approximately three weeks.
  • Negotiable pay rates, depending on experience.
  • The opportunity to make a positive contribution within a specialist school setting.
  • Support from your dedicated Tradewind Recruitment consultant.
