Cover Manager/HR Assistant - Secondary School

Location: Barnet, North London

Salary: Negotiable!

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Start Date: ASAP

The Role

  • Contacting agencies to get supply staff
  • Organising timetables to allocate staff to lessons
  • Assisnting HR team with long term placements
  • Providing day-to-day administrative support to the HR team
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR systems
  • Supporting with recruitment and onboarding of new staff
  • Preparing contracts, offer letters and other HR documentation
  • Coordinating pre-employment checks, including DBS and right-to-work checks
  • Maintaining records relating to safeguarding and safer recruitment
  • Assisting with staff absence, sickness and leave administration
  • Supporting with payroll-related administration and ensuring information is accurate
  • Responding to HR queries from staff and providing a professional first point of contact
  • Assisting with the organisation of staff training and maintaining training records
  • Supporting the HR team with employee relations matters and HR processes
  • Producing reports and maintaining HR spreadsheets and databases
  • Ensuring all HR records and information are handled with a high level of confidentiality
  • Supporting wider school administration when required

About You

The successful candidate will be an organised, proactive and approachable HR professional who is confident working in a busy environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working in a Cover Manager, HR Assistant or HR Administrator role
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Good knowledge of HR administration and the employee lifecycle
  • Experience handling confidential information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office and Excel
  • The ability to prioritise a varied workload and meet deadlines
  • A professional and approachable manner
  • The ability to work effectively with staff at all levels
  • Previous experience within a school or education setting would be highly desirable, although candidates with strong general HR administration experience will also be considered.
