Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant - New Alternative Provision
Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire
Start Date: October 2026
Contract: Temp-to-Perm
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a new challenge where you can make a genuine difference to young people who may have struggled within mainstream education? A brand-new Alternative Provision setting in Towcester is opening this October, and they are looking to build an experienced and dedicated team of Teaching Assistants to support their next stage of growth. The organisation already operates two successful and established sites and is now expanding its provision into Towcester. This is an exciting opportunity to join the setting at the beginning of its journey and become part of a supportive team committed to providing young people with a positive, structured and nurturing educational environment.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and other members of the wider team to support students with their learning, engagement and personal development. You will help create a calm and consistent environment where students feel supported and able to make progress. The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working within Alternative Provision, SEN, SEMH, mainstream education, youth work or another setting supporting young people with additional needs. You will need to be patient, resilient and confident in building positive relationships with students who may present with challenging behaviour or have experienced difficulties within traditional education.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar education, youth work or support role.
- Experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs is highly desirable.
- A calm, patient and consistent approach, with the ability to build trusting relationships.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to education.
Excellent Development Opportunities
The setting is committed to investing in its staff and offers opportunities to gain further qualifications and progress your career. If you don't currently hold a formal Teaching Assistant qualification, there may be the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship alongside your role. Those who already hold a Level 2 qualification may be supported to progress towards HLTA-level responsibilities and qualifications, depending on experience and suitability. This is therefore an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator who wants to develop their skills and build a long-term career within Alternative Provision.
Important Information
Applicants must have the right to work and remain in the UK. Unfortunately, this setting is unable to offer sponsorship. The position is initially offered on a temp-to-perm basis, providing you with the opportunity to establish yourself within the setting before potentially transferring into a permanent position. If you're an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding new opportunity within a growing Alternative Provision organisation, we'd love to hear from you!
