School Facilities Assistant - Secondary School

Location: Newham, East London
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-time, long-term (temporary position until July 2027 - with a possible extension)

A secondary school in Newham is looking for a reliable and hardworking Facilities Assistant to join their site team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming school environment.

The Role

As a Facilities Assistant, you will work alongside the Site Manager and wider premises team to ensure the school site is well maintained and operational on a day-to-day basis.

Key responsibilities include:

• Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs across the school site.

• Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day running of the premises.

• Ensuring classrooms, communal areas and external spaces are safe and well maintained.

• Setting up and moving furniture and equipment for lessons and school events.

• Carrying out regular site checks and reporting any issues or hazards.

• Assisting with deliveries, contractors and visitors when required.

• Supporting the opening and closing of the school site.

• Helping to maintain high standards of health and safety across the premises.

• Responding promptly to facilities and maintenance requests.

• Carrying out other general site duties as required.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience in a facilities, maintenance, caretaking or site-based role.

• Good practical and DIY skills.

• A proactive and hands-on approach to work.

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Good communication and organisational skills.

• An understanding of health and safety within a working environment.

• A reliable, professional and flexible attitude.

• Previous experience working within a school or education setting would be advantageous, but is not essential.
