TradesTech Recruitment has been exclusively retained to recruit an experienced Senior Engineer on behalf of one of the Midlands' leading residential groundworks and civil engineering contractors.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business with an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality residential infrastructure projects for many of the UK's leading housebuilders. Although the company has grown significantly over the years, it has never lost the close-knit culture and family values that made it successful. People are genuinely valued, hard work is recognised, and internal promotion is always the preferred route. Many employees have built long and successful careers here, progressing through the business into senior positions.
If you're looking for a company where you'll be trusted, supported and given the opportunity to develop your career, this is exactly that kind of environment.
Why Engineers Join This Business
There are plenty of groundworks contractors delivering residential infrastructure across the Midlands, but very few have managed to grow while holding onto the values that made them successful in the first place. This is a business where people know each other by name, senior management remain approachable and good engineers are trusted to do what they do best. It's a company that believes in developing its own people, with internal promotion always being the preferred route rather than recruiting externally. Engineers who join here tend to stay. Not because they have to, but because they're valued, supported and given genuine opportunities to progress. You'll be joining a collaborative team where quality, teamwork and professionalism are recognised, and where your contribution genuinely makes a difference.
You’ll benefit from:
- Working for one of the Midlands' most respected residential groundworks contractors.
- A secure pipeline of long-term residential infrastructure projects.
- A supportive management team that values your experience and listens to your ideas.
- Modern surveying equipment and continued investment in engineering technology.
- Genuine opportunities for career progression and professional development.
- A friendly, close-knit working environment where everyone pulls in the same direction.
- The stability of an established business with the culture of a family-run company.
The Role
As Senior Engineer, you'll take technical ownership of the engineering function across residential groundworks and civil engineering projects throughout the Midlands. Working closely with the Site Manager, Contracts Manager and operational teams, you'll ensure projects are delivered safely, accurately and to programme while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
Projects typically include:
- Setting out housing plots, boundary lines and fence lines.
- Roads and highways.
- Drainage and sewer installations.
- Foundations and external works.
- Earthworks and infrastructure.
- Section 278 highway works.
- QA documentation and as-built surveys.
- Supporting and mentoring Site Engineers and junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of all engineering activities on site.
- Carry out accurate setting out using robotic total stations, GPS equipment and surveying instruments.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Identify and resolve technical issues before they impact programme, quality or cost.
- Produce and maintain QA documentation and accurate as-built records.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, utility providers and local authorities where required.
- Support and mentor Site Engineers and junior engineering staff.
- Work closely with Site Managers, Supervisors and commercial teams.
- Assist with material quantities, earthworks calculations and forecasting.
- Ensure all works are completed safely and to the highest technical standards.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced engineer who understands the demands of residential groundworks and civil engineering projects and wants to build a long-term career with a company that genuinely invests in its people.
You should have:
- Previous experience as a Senior Engineer, Section Engineer or an experienced Site Engineer ready to take the next step.
- A strong background in residential groundworks and civil engineering.
- Proven experience setting out roads, drainage, sewers, housing plots, foundations and external works.
- A good understanding of Section 278 and adoptable infrastructure works.
- Competence using robotic total stations, GPS surveying equipment and levelling instruments.
- Experience producing QA documentation, as-built surveys and engineering records.
- Experience setting out using GPS machine control systems would be highly advantageous. However, this isn’t essential, as full training can be provided to the right person with the right attitude, aptitude and residential groundworks experience.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software would be advantageous.
- Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to mentor and support junior engineers while taking ownership of the engineering function on site.
- A valid CSCS card.
- A full UK driving licence.
What’s on Offer
- Competitive salary with car allowance and benefits.
- Permanent or freelance long-term position with an established Midlands contractor.
- A strong pipeline of residential infrastructure projects.
- Genuine opportunities for internal promotion and career development.
- Investment in modern surveying equipment and engineering technology.
- A supportive and approachable leadership team.
- A collaborative working environment where quality is valued over shortcuts.
- The opportunity to build a long-term career with a business that continues to grow while staying true to its family values.
