An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Personal Tax Manager to join a highly respected and growing independent accountancy practice in the Stockport area. The Opportunity

Reporting to the Tax Director and Partners, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients whilst providing high-quality advisory and compliance services. This is a client-facing role that would suit an experienced tax professional who enjoys building trusted relationships, delivering technical advice and supporting junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of personal tax clients, including HNWIs, directors, business owners and trusts
  • Reviewing and overseeing personal tax compliance work
  • Providing proactive tax planning and advisory services
  • Advising on capital gains tax, inheritance tax and remuneration planning
  • Managing HMRC enquiries and correspondence
  • Reviewing tax returns prepared by junior team members
  • Supporting business development initiatives and client relationship management
  • Mentoring, developing and reviewing the work of junior tax staff
  • Working closely with Partners on complex advisory assignments

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • ATT and/or CTA qualified (or qualified by experience)
  • Minimum 5+ years' UK Practice experience within personal tax
  • At least 2 years' experience operating at Senior Tax Consultant, Assistant Manager or Tax Manager level
  • Strong knowledge of: Personal Tax, Capital Gains Tax (CGT), Inheritance Tax (IHT), Trust taxation, Self-Assessment, HMRC compliance procedures
  • Experience managing a client portfolio independently
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong technical review and advisory capabilities

Desirable

  • CTA qualification
  • Experience advising owner-managed businesses and entrepreneurial clients
  • Exposure to complex tax planning assignments
  • Experience managing and developing junior team members
