Are you an ambitious senior corporate lawyer ready to take on a Director or Partner role and drive the next phase of growth for a highly rated and award-winning corporate team? Our client, a nationally recognised law firm with over 1,000 colleagues across 13 offices, is seeking a Corporate Director or Partner with 7+ years' PQE to join their Sheffield team in a key senior management position.
This is an exceptional opportunity to work with one of the UK's largest and most dynamic corporate teams, comprising over 70 corporate lawyers operating from 13 UK locations. The team has extensive experience advising businesses ranging from entrepreneurs and SMEs to financial institutions and FTSE 100 companies.
The Sheffield Corporate team is led by Recommended Lawyers and Leading Partners listed in The Legal 500 (2025 edition) in Corporate and Commercial Law. The team has significant experience of company acquisitions and disposals, fund-raises, and restructurings, acting for a wide portfolio of clients from high-growth university spin-outs to multi-nationals across sectors including manufacturing, engineering, and technology.
The Role
The Sheffield Corporate team sees this appointment as key to driving the next phase of its growth. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join the senior management as a Director or Partner and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the practice.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing complex and high-value corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, disposals, and corporate sales
- Drafting and negotiating shareholders' agreements and joint venture agreements
- Advising on corporate restructurings, reorganisations, and demergers
- Leading private equity transactions and fundraising matters
- Conducting and overseeing due diligence exercises
- Advising on corporate structures and governance matters
- Driving the next phase of growth for the Sheffield Corporate team
- Building, developing, and managing a portfolio of key client relationships
- Generating new business and developing an existing following (or implementing a clear growth plan)
- Acting as trusted adviser to clients ranging from high-growth university spin-outs to multi-nationals
- Leading, mentoring, and developing associates, junior lawyers, and trainees
- Nurturing and developing talent within the team
- Contributing to the strategic development and growth of the corporate practice
- Leading business development activities, client seminars, and thought leadership initiatives
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the national corporate team and 13 UK offices
- Providing exceptional client service with commercially focused and strategic advice
About You
Essential Requirements:
- 7+ years' PQE in corporate law
- Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales
- Proven track record of leading and managing complex and high-value corporate transactions independently
- Strong technical knowledge of corporate law including M&A, shareholders' agreements, corporate structures, and governance
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills at the highest level
- Strong client relationship management skills with proven ability to act as trusted adviser
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven leadership skills with strong track record in nurturing and developing talent
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
- Commercially focused with strategic and pragmatic approach to problem-solving
- Commitment to delivering exceptional client service
- Strong business development skills with ability to generate and develop client relationships
- Team player who works seamlessly across multiple offices
- Ability to contribute to senior management and strategic decision-making
Highly Desirable:
- Existing following or portable client base
