A stand-alone NPD position. The candidate will drive the NPD & EPD process/projects, has an eye for attention to detail, and be an all-rounder with a creative streak in this customer-facing position. You will be dealing with customers and contributing to the development of existing and new products in response to market trends and ideas.
Responsibilities
- Ownership of the day-to-day tasks within the development kitchen.
- Working hands-on in the development kitchen to produce quality samples to dispatch to customers within required time frames, whilst conforming to our own ingredient policy and monitoring the use of ingredients.
- Good communication skills and teamwork to drive the creation of samples in line with the business’s presentation calendar.
- Organisation of stock and ingredients ensuring they are stocked and in date.
- Identification of ingredients that will differentiate the company from their competitors.
- Monitoring of global market trends and understanding of the category and customer ranges.
- Ownership of shelf life assessments, pH reading, and Aw activity with support from technical.
- Develop recipes and provide the accounts team with full accurate costings.
- Liaising with external suppliers to develop bespoke ingredients, source new ingredients, packaging, and sourcing new suppliers when required.
- Basic understanding of all functional ingredients and ideally experience in reducing calories and sugar.
- Take a leading and proactive approach to customer and market innovation.
- Leading trials and recording all relevant information.
- Ensuring high standards are maintained in having a clean test bakery, including labelling of ingredients and completion of cleaning schedules.
- Benchmarking of products regularly to gain awareness of the market for a competitive advantage.
- Accurately prepare all necessary documentation to progress from concept to process handovers.
- Keen eye for attention to detail, along with the ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
- Work with and continue to challenge and improve the company’s gate system.
- Ensure all supply chain and technical specifications are available for all development products.
- Understanding of all aspects of the factory production processes, capabilities, and potential for change.
- Ensure all packaging projects are owned, managed, and delivered OTIF.
Candidate
- Full UK Driving License.
- Organisational skills and ability to balance multiple projects.
- Recipe balance and a depth of shelf life understanding as well as experience with retailers are a definite requirement.
- Degree in Food Science or equivalent is an advantage.
- 3+ years of bakery knowledge in cake and experience.
- Passion, drive, urgency, reliability, good food knowledge, and a passion for food.
- Trustworthy, creative, innovative, with a chef background.
- Can-do attitude, punctual, team player, and able to work alone.
- Hands-on approach with extensive familiarity with computers and their programs and systems.
- Strong documentation writing and problem-solving skills.
- Currently operating as a Senior Development Technologist within the Food Manufacturing Industry or a Technologist looking for a step up into a role with more responsibility.
Other Areas of Responsibilities
- Ensure procedural compliance to risk assessments, manual handling, fire safety, first aid, accidents, and injury.
- Compliance to GMP, 5S, BRC, QAS, and general housekeeping practices.
- To carry out other reasonable requests from your Managing Director & NPD Manager.
