We are currently recruiting a Senior Underwriter to achieve underwriting income targets and profit goals in the specialist area of Engineering and Construction Insurance in accordance with the Chubb set business plan and underwriting guidelines and appetite. To ensure underwriting integrity through appropriate deployment of capacity, whilst being compliant with guidelines and controls, consistency of approach towards risk selection, pricing, and use of capacity whilst recognising market conditions within delegated underwriting authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Goals: To underwrite new business or renewals according to defined underwriting guidelines, specified budget and local business plan.
- Portfolio Integrity: To assist in formulating underwriting strategy, forecasts and portfolio management in order to achieve underwriting profitability. To ensure quality control within defined area of responsibility.
- Product Development: To prioritise and develop products within area of specialist expertise in order to improve client retention and new business. This may involve collaborating with peers within other products in the UK and I and across business lines in Europe as well as globally.
- Producer Management: To represent and promote Chubb corporately to brokers, internal and external clients domestically and overseas. This may involve servicing key producers and clients, monitoring business acquisition and retention as well as maximising cross‑selling opportunities.
- Procedures: To meet company standards in respect of policy documentation, timeframe for quoting new and renewal business and compliance issues.
- Operational Management: To support junior colleagues by using the peer review process as well as providing mentoring, training and coaching where appropriate. In so doing, ensuring a high‑quality underwriting team.
- Chubb Representative: To represent and promote Chubb and maintain a permanent contact with internal colleagues and clients as well as major domestic and overseas clients.
Qualifications
- Excellent market experience and knowledge of UK Regional and, in some cases, International Erection/Construction all Risks and Operational Engineering insurances and exposures in the given classes currently written by Chubb Technical Lines including, but not limited to, Power – Traditional, Alternative and some Renewable and Heavy and Light Mechanical and Electrical Industries.
- Extensive experience, competence and understanding of this specialist product line, the insurance market and our competitors.
- Solid experience of dealing with brokers of all tiers and clients.
- Results driven with ability to make own decisions and work on own initiative.
- Experienced in Engineering and Construction practices and methods and client experience and knowledge, policy exposures and suitable policy requirements.
- Experienced in leadership.
