The Role: What You’ll Be Doing
As a key member of the team, you will take ownership of a portfolio of small business clients, supporting both bookkeeping and accounts preparation. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing client bookkeeping using cloud accounting software
- Liaising directly with clients via email and telephone
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Assisting with Making Tax Digital (MTD) processes and development
- Supporting senior accountants with:
- Accounts preparation up to trial balance
- Potential production of management accounts
- Ensuring deadlines are met and maintaining high accuracy standards
- Occasional travel to client sites to collect records
About You: Skills & Experience Required
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong foundation in UK accountancy practice and a proactive approach to client service. Essential requirements:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within a UK accountancy practice
- Proven experience preparing accounts for:
- Sole traders
- Limited companies
- Partnerships
- Strong working knowledge of cloud‑based accounting software, ideally including:
- Xero
- Sage Business Cloud
- QuickBooks
- FreeAgent
- Excellent understanding of bookkeeping and accounts preparation processes
- Ability to work independently, manage workload, and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- High level of attention to detail
Additional requirements:
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (required for occasional client visits)
