We are working with a well-established and growing product manufacturer based in East Yorkshire, which is looking to appoint a creative and technically capable Product Design Engineer to join their in-house design team.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a Product Design Engineer to work on a wide variety of consumer-facing and commercial products that end up in public spaces, leisure venues, educational settings, and large-scale attractions across the UK and internationally. The successful Product Design Engineer will join a small, creative, and fast-paced team based at a modern design office, working across both bespoke client projects and the company’s own expanding product ranges.
The Role
As a Product Design Engineer, you will be responsible for taking products from initial concept through to production-ready outputs, working collaboratively with colleagues across design, production, and client services. Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Generating and developing product concepts from initial brief through to detailed 3D design
- Producing accurate technical drawings, assembly documentation, and installation guides
- Collaborating with the wider team and contributing to client presentations and design reviews
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
- Contributing ideas and creative solutions to both new product development and bespoke client commissions
- Working to commercial briefs and considering cost, manufacturability, and end-user experience throughout the design process
Key Skills and Requirements
The ideal Product Design Engineer will bring a blend of creative thinking and strong technical ability. You will need to demonstrate:
- A degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, or a closely related discipline
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or Solid Edge — including 3D modelling, assemblies, and technical drawing production
- Strong freehand sketching and visual communication skills
- Experience with rendering and presentation tools such as KeyShot, Photoshop, or Illustrator
- Confident verbal communication and the ability to present design concepts clearly
- A commercially aware, self-motivated approach with the ability to manage your own workload
- A collaborative mindset — comfortable working within a creative team and alongside other departments
