If you want to become the procurement lead for a food manufacturing group in future, but don't want to have to keep changing employers to climb the ladder, this job might be the one for you. You might also be interested in expanding your category experience from just one type of food - this is a complete buying role, covering all direct material categories (chilled, ambient, frozen, packaging).
It’s a new role for the company, so you might wonder how a growing, multi-site, food manufacturing group (with a 9-figure turnover) could have no buyers currently. This role is to formalise their buying function, rather than splitting the responsibilities between the Directors, so there is nobody’s shoes to fill, and few preconceived ideas about the way to do things.
You would spend most of your time looking at supplier performance, price benchmarking, assessing future volume predictions and finding comparable materials from alternative suppliers. Some of your time might be helping the NPD team source ingredients in the window between concept and full production. This is nothing new for you, of course, as you do this in your current role in the UK food manufacturing industry.
If you got this role, you would be given free rein to identify cost-saving opportunities and pursue them, all the while being given support from the leadership team. As the company grows and expands into new product categories, you will be in the right place to head up a department as it grows - without having to change employer each time you want advancement.
You would also quickly discover why people stay with the business long-term: the close-knit, friendly, collaborative culture; no politics, approachable leadership who care and think long-term; a genuine entrepreneurial feel to the company.
Salary £60,000 - £65,000. Office-based, flexible start and finish times. Lots of support from the leadership team.
