A leading IPP is accelerating the energy transition, designing, building, and operating utility-scale solar farms and battery storage across the UK and Northern Europe. Having 1.1GW of renewable assets, they are targeting a further 1.3GW by 2031. They are now looking for a Head of Engineering to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team and oversee the design and delivery of a grid‑scale solar PV and BESS project pipeline. You’ll be our key technical authority, overseeing £100–150m of construction annually across the UK, Ireland, Netherlands and Belgium.
Leading teams across Mechanical, Electrical, C&I, CAD, Grid Connection and Civil Engineering, you’ll shape our engineering vision and drive delivery from feasibility through to commissioning.
The role
- Lead design of grid‑scale solar PV and BESS systems
- Oversee feasibility, site assessments and grid evaluations
- Manage budgets, contracts and capital project delivery
- Drive technology selection and engineering standards
- Ensure HSEQ compliance across the project lifecycle
- Interface with regulators, utilities, investors and partners
- Grow and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team
What they’re looking for
- Grid‑scale solar PV and BESS design experience
- Battery expertise: BMS, cell chemistry, degradation
- UK DNO/TSO connection and testing experience
- HAZOP/HAZID and HSE risk management
- Full turnkey construction experience (civils to commissioning)
- Proven multidisciplinary team leadership
- Netherlands/Belgian BESS market knowledge
- CDM 2015 / Principal Designer experience
- Dutch or Flemish language skills
Qualifications
- Degree in an engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer preferred
- Proven UK grid‑scale BESS/solar PV track record required
- Experience in the Netherlands and/or Belgian markets (desirable)
