Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chiller/Refrigeration Engineer who is proficient in the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of a wide range of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, particularly chillers. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic capabilities, thorough knowledge of refrigerant systems, and the ability to ensure systems are tested, commissioned, and handed over in line with project and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, service, and maintain a range of refrigeration and chiller systems, including air‑cooled and water‑cooled chillers (scroll, screw, centrifugal, etc.).
- Perform full commissioning duties including pre‑commissioning checks, system testing, functional performance testing, and final commissioning reports.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system faults and carry out effective repairs or modifications as necessary.
- Ensure systems are operating to design specifications and within regulatory compliance (F‑Gas, EN378, etc.).
- Complete relevant documentation, including commissioning checklists, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Provide technical support to junior engineers and site teams during installation and commissioning phases.
- Work closely with project managers, clients, and other contractors to ensure smooth project execution and client satisfaction.
- Always maintain a high standard of health and safety and environmental compliance.
Skills and Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (or equivalent).
- City & Guilds 2079 / F‑Gas Certification (Category 1).
- Proven experience with commissioning commercial/industrial chillers and refrigeration systems.
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and control strategies (e.g., BMS integration).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring schematics.
- Familiarity with manufacturers such as Trane, Carrier, Daikin or similar is desirable.
- Excellent diagnostic and fault‑finding skills.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- CSCS/ECS or equivalent site safety certification preferred.
Desirable Attributes:
- Manufacturer‑specific training or certification (e.g., Trane, Carrier Technical).
- Experience with hydrotesting, pressure testing, and flushing.
- Familiarity with heat pumps and other HVAC systems is a bonus.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
Working Conditions:
- Field‑based role with travel to various sites.
- Occasional weekend or out‑of‑hours work depending on projects.
