We are hiring for our client, a leading manufacturing organisation, who are seeking to appoint an Automation Project Engineer to join their Engineering Projects team. This is an excellent opportunity for an Automation Project Engineer to play a key role in the delivery of automation, capital investment, process improvement, and site upgrade projects within a highly regulated manufacturing environment. The successful Automation Project Engineer will support projects from concept through to commissioning and handover, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in compliance with GMP, regulatory, and safety standards. This role offers exposure to a wide variety of automation and engineering projects while working alongside experienced engineering, production, quality, and maintenance teams.

The Role
- Support the planning, design, execution, and close-out of automation and engineering projects
- Assist with project scheduling, resource planning, cost tracking, and risk management
- Prepare engineering documentation, drawings, specifications, and reports
- Collaborate with Production, QA, Maintenance, and external contractors
- Support commissioning, qualification, validation, and handover activities
- Review technical designs and installation plans to ensure compliance with GMP and safety requirements
- Troubleshoot automation and technical issues during project delivery and commissioning
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready project records and documentation
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical input and progress updates
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and post-project reviews
- Provide technical support across automation systems and engineering operations
The Person
- Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in Electrical, Automation, Mechanical, Chemical, or a related Engineering discipline
- Experience supporting automation, engineering, or capital projects within a regulated manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of GMP and regulatory requirements
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Competent with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation systems
Desirable
- Experience in commissioning, qualification, or validation activities
- Knowledge of project management methodologies
- Previous pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, or highly regulated manufacturing experience
- Exposure to automation, controls, PLC, or process systems would be advantageous
