Lawes is working with a leading Lloyd’s Syndicate to find a bright and motivated school/college leaver for a Trainee Underwriting Assistant role. You will support an underwriting team specialising in International Liability risks, including Pharmaceutical, Medical Malpractice, Clinical Trials and Commercial Liability, by providing administrative and technical assistance across pre and post-bind processes, documentation and broker communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the accurate entry of risk data into underwriting systems
  • Support the underwriters with preparation of documentation for meetings and audits
  • Liaise with brokers and internal departments to obtain or provide information
  • Maintain electronic filing systems to ensure compliance and organisation
  • Monitor diary tasks and follow up on outstanding items as required

Day-to-day

  • Upload submissions and quotes to internal systems
  • Track and manage policy lifecycles and endorsement activity
  • Produce and check documentation such as quotes, binders and slips
  • Attend meetings and take minutes when necessary
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and reporting

Experience

  • 3 A-Level's grades C or above (or equivalent)
  • No previous insurance experience required but any exposure to an office environment is advantageous

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Outlook)
  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn with a proactive approach
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work well under pressure
