A senior technical architect is responsible for the design and assurance of technical systems that meet business needs. They work on complex projects, providing technical direction and guidance to delivery teams. They ensure that technical designs are aligned with strategic and architectural standards, and that systems are robust, scalable, and maintainable. At Ofgem, this means leading the design and assurance of Salesforce-based solutions that enable secure, scalable, and user-focused digital services. You will work across multiple Salesforce clouds (Service, Experience, PSS, and Core Platform), integrating with enterprise systems and ensuring adherence to Ofgem's architectural, data, and security principles.

At this role level, you will:

  • Define and assure technical designs for Salesforce platforms across multiple delivery teams.
  • Guide and support engineers and architects in applying Salesforce standards and patterns, ensuring solutions meet user, business, and security needs and are aligned to Ofgem's technical strategy.
  • Identify and communicate technical risks and dependencies across teams, contributing to the continuous improvement of technical standards, reusable patterns, and design governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and documentation of Salesforce solutions, ensuring they meet business needs, align with architectural standards, and deliver value across Ofgem’s programmes.
  • Provide technical assurance for Salesforce implementations, ensuring solutions comply with Ofgem’s architecture, security, and design principles.
  • Design Salesforce solutions that integrate effectively with enterprise platforms and data systems, ensuring information consistency, interoperability, and adherence to data governance policies.
  • Work with delivery teams to guide technical decisions, resolve design challenges, and ensure high-quality implementations that meet user and business expectations.
  • Mentor associates and technical architects, contributing to the Salesforce Centre of Excellence and promoting the adoption of best practices across teams and projects.

  • Development process optimisation: Collaborate with engineering and DevOps teams to support CI/CD and release management within Salesforce environments. Promote automation and efficiency in development and deployment processes. Ensure that testing and quality assurance practices are embedded into the design lifecycle.
  • Security and compliance: Apply Ofgem's security, identity, and access control standards within Salesforce solutions. Understand data privacy, encryption, and audit requirements. Work with security teams to identify and address platform risks.

Key Stakeholder Relationships

Internal: Principal Technical Architect (Salesforce) and Enterprise Architects, Programme and Project Managers, Developers, Technical Leads, and Product Owners, Data and Security Teams, Delivery and Operations Managers, Salesforce CoE.

External: SI Salesforce Partner and Vendor Teams, Cabinet Office and GDS (for standards assurance), System Integrators and Delivery Partners, Cross‑government Salesforce and technical architecture communities, Professional certification and training providers.

Role Criteria

Essential: Demonstrable experience designing and leading Salesforce solutions across multiple clouds and domains. Demonstrable understanding of core Salesforce Platform, Service cloud, community cloud and Public Sector Solutions. Demonstrable understanding of integration patterns, APIs, and middleware for connecting Salesforce to enterprise systems. Proficiency in architectural modelling tools such as Archi and frameworks, such as ArchiMate, UML, or equivalent, with the ability to create and maintain architectural artefacts. Experience of applying secure design principles and data governance within Salesforce implementations. Holds or can obtain the following certifications or equivalent within 6 months: Certified Salesforce Technical Architect or equivalent, Formal Architectural Qualification such as BCS EA Certification, The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) or Zachman Framework Certification.

Desirable: Understanding government digital standards and assurance processes.
