Our client is a well-established and growing UK manufacturing business designing custom control systems for lifting and access solutions, specialising in the design and build of bespoke electrical control systems. Serving a diverse range of industries, they are recognised for delivering high-quality engineered solutions and are now seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to strengthen their leadership team. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines technical design expertise with team management responsibilities. The successful candidate will lead a small engineering team, ensuring high-quality, compliant electrical designs are delivered efficiently while remaining actively involved in control panel design throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the production of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and cable schedules.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team, providing technical guidance and support.
- Take ownership of electrical control panel design from customer specification through to production release.
- Drive best practices in design, documentation, and engineering processes.
- Apply safety engineering principles, including functional safety, within automated systems.
- Support component selection, balancing cost, performance, and availability.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK standards and safety regulations.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide engineering support during production, testing, commissioning, and fault-finding activities.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes.
- Contribute technical expertise to quotations and project planning activities.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Strong experience in electrical control panel design and drafting.
- Previous experience leading, supervising, or mentoring engineers.
- Good understanding of safety engineering principles and automated systems.
- Knowledge of relevant UK standards, including BS EN 61439 and BS 7671.
- Proficiency with electrical CAD software.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Experience within lifting, materials handling, automation, or other safety-critical industries.
- Knowledge of functional safety standards.
- Experience with PLCs, drives, or embedded control systems.
- Familiarity with UPS or emergency evacuation systems.
- Experience implementing engineering process improvements.
- Exposure to digital engineering tools, automation, or AI-assisted workflows.
