We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Practice Nurse to join a friendly and supportive GP practice in the Newport area of South Wales. This is a maternity cover position offering 2–3 days per week, with flexibility on working days. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care, primarily through treatment room duties and supporting the management of long-term conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Treatment Room Duties
    • Wound care and dressings (including complex wounds)
    • Immunisations and vaccinations (including childhood and travel vaccines where applicable)
    • Cervical cytology (smear tests)
    • Blood pressure monitoring and NHS health checks
    • Phlebotomy
    • ECG recording
    • Infection prevention and control procedures
  • Long-Term Condition Management
    • Supporting reviews for patients with chronic conditions such as: Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Hypertension
    • Monitoring, patient education, and lifestyle advice
    • Assisting with care planning and documentation

Person Specification

  • Essential
    • Practice Nurse with valid NMC registration
    • Previous experience working in a GP practice or primary care setting
    • Competent in treatment room skills including immunisations and cytology
    • Experience in managing or supporting long-term condition reviews
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Desirable
    • Chronic disease management qualifications or training
    • Experience using GP clinical systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne)
    • Up-to-date mandatory training
