We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Teacher of Design Technology to join a well-established secondary school in Essex. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire students to develop practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and creative thinking through a varied and dynamic Design Technology curriculum.

As a valued member of the DT department, you will deliver engaging lessons across a range of specialisms, supporting students from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5. You will play a key role in fostering innovation, confidence, and technical knowledge, preparing learners for further education and future careers in design, engineering, and technology.

This is a full-time, permanent role within a secondary school setting, starting in September 2025. The position is offered on the Main Pay Range/Upper Pay Range, ensuring your expertise and contribution are recognised. Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality Design Technology lessons across KS3–KS5
  • Inspire students to explore creativity, design, and innovation
  • Monitor and assess progress, providing feedback and guidance
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort, and achievement
  • Contribute to curriculum development within the DT department
  • Promote safe and effective use of tools, equipment, and workshop spaces
  • Support extracurricular activities, clubs, and competitions in Design Technology
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in wider school life
Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Design Technology or related subject
  • Experience teaching Design Technology in a secondary school setting
  • Strong subject knowledge across a range of DT specialisms (e.g., Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, Engineering)
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate learners of all abilities
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • A creative and innovative approach to teaching and learning
