Classroom support are excited to be working with a school in Chatham who are looking to recruit a number of Learning Support Assistants to start throughout the year as the school expands. The school supports students aged 11‑16 with SEMH. The environment can be very challenging in terms of behaviour; however, the Senior leadership team look to promote staff members that work hard and make a lasting positive impact on their students. There are huge opportunities to progress.

Starting on a supply basis and going permanent between 14+ weeks into the contract.

Contract details

The positions will start on a temporary basis with the option of going permanent after a number of weeks working with the academy through our Classroom Support agency. You would start on weekly pay with ourselves and as long as the extended trial period goes well, permanent opportunities would then arise to be employed directly by the school. The rate of pay is Β£95+ per day for the right candidates. Temp to perm option after 14 academic weeks.

Qualifications
  • Experience of supporting children/young adults with challenging behaviour.
  • A keen understanding of being able to create bonds with students that have had challenging backgrounds and to be able to quickly build trust.
  • Worked within a Pupil Referral unit or SEMH school historically is advantageous.
  • Experience supporting students within SEN schools or candidates with a Mental Health or Support Work/Young offenders setting experience would also be advantageous.
  • Any experience of restraint/positive handling training is highly advantageous but not necessary as the school use this as a last resort in all cases.
  • Solid knowledge and experience supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
  • Any understanding or experience supporting children within the foster system is also advantageous or working with looked after children.

You will need a DBS on the update service or be willing to arrange a new DBS, or we can help you run one for a cost of Β£52.20 for a new DBS if you do not have one for us to be able to place you in a school.
