We are working with an engineering team seeking an FPGA / Digital Systems Engineer for a 3–5 month outside IR35 contract, based in Bristol (hybrid). This is a hands‑on role building real‑time digital systems that directly interface with MEMS and photonic hardware. The FPGA is a core part of the sensing system, directly impacting stability, noise performance, and overall system behaviour.
What you’ll do:
- Design and implement FPGA systems for high‑speed sensing and control (MEMS, photonics, ADC/DACs)
- Build and stabilise real‑time control loops (PLLs, AGC, feedback systems, demodulation)
- Translate control theory and signal processing into robust RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog)
- Manage timing, latency, jitter, noise, and numerical stability
- Develop Python‑based verification and automation tooling
- Own verification using structured testbenches, assertions, and automated testing
- Support lab bring‑up and hardware debugging
What we’re looking for:
- Strong FPGA experience on real hardware
- Background in control theory or signal processing
- Experience with feedback systems (e.g. PLLs, control loops)
- Comfortable working across digital, analog, and physical domains
- Strong verification discipline (not just waveform debugging)
