The Mould Shop Manager will oversee daily operations of the mould shop, manage the team, ensure efficient production of high‑quality moulds, and maintain adherence to safety, quality, and production standards. Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Management: Supervise, train, and develop mould shop personnel including toolmakers, machinists, and technicians. Ensure team members are properly trained and adhere to safety protocols. Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Production Management: Plan, schedule, and oversee the production of moulds to meet project deadlines and customer requirements. Monitor production processes for efficiency, quality, and cost‑effectiveness. Coordinate with design and engineering teams to ensure moulds are manufactured to specification.
- Quality Control: Implement and maintain quality control procedures to meet industry standards and customer specifications. Conduct regular inspections and audits of moulds and production processes. Address quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Oversee maintenance and repair of moulding machines, tools, and equipment. Diagnose and resolve technical issues that arise during production. Ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently, minimizing downtime.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance productivity and reduce waste. Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma projects. Stay updated on industry trends and moulding technology advancements.
- Inventory & Resource Management: Manage inventory levels of raw materials, components, and finished moulds to prevent production delays. Coordinate with procurement for timely ordering and delivery of materials. Monitor and control shop expenses to stay within budget.
- Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies. Conduct regular safety inspections and training to maintain a safe working environment. Investigate and report on accidents or near misses, implementing preventative measures.
- Collaboration: Work closely with design, engineering, production, and quality assurance departments to ensure seamless operations. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on production status, challenges, and solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Professional certifications in mould making, tool and die making, or related areas are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in a mould shop environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Strong knowledge of moulding processes, materials, and equipment, especially in the electronics and electrical engineering sector. Proven experience implementing and managing quality control processes.
- Skills: Leadership and team management skills to motivate and develop a high‑performing team. Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities. Strong organizational and time‑management skills, handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficient in manufacturing software and tools such as CAD/CAM systems.
