The Role

We are looking for an exceptional Portfolio Manager to join a busy Bolton accounting team and hit the ground running with their own portfolio of limited company clients. You will have a direct, supportive team consisting of an Accountant and a Bookkeeper, enabling you to focus on delivering an exemplary service, providing proactive advice, and building strong long-term client relationships.

What you will be doing:

  • Providing excellent service, support and proactive business advice to a portfolio of limited company clients
  • Managing and reviewing statutory and management accounts from planning through to completion, ensuring compliance with HMRC and Companies House standards and deadlines
  • Managing and reviewing corporation tax, personal tax and VAT computations and returns
  • Analysing company accounts and delivering tailored advisory support to clients
  • Managing company secretarial tasks, including CS01s, company formations and ad-hoc filings
  • Monitoring deadlines across your portfolio (accounts, VAT, tax returns, CS01s and related compliance)
  • Leading, developing and monitoring performance across a team of senior and junior staff to maintain standards, compliance and service quality
  • Advising clients on tax planning, including remuneration strategy, pension contributions and capital assets
  • Liaising with credit control to ensure services are billed correctly and credit control policy is followed
  • Working closely with the Personal Tax Manager on self-assessment for your portfolio, and with wider tax specialists on more complex matters
  • Reporting regularly to senior management on portfolio statistics and performance
  • Attending and leading client meetings when required
  • Actively building your portfolio and identifying opportunities to upsell and cross-sell services
  • Supporting team development through training, coaching and strong day-to-day leadership

What we are looking for:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in practice
  • Part-qualified ACA or ACCA will be considered with significant experience managing a portfolio and leading an accounting team
  • Proven experience managing your own portfolio of clients, alongside team management
  • Strong experience with cloud accounting software (Xero preferred)
  • Working knowledge of accounting support tools such as Dext, CCH (or similar)
