Policy Lead – Employment Rights & Labour Markets

Location: Congress House, Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LS. 35 hours a week, 18‑month fixed‑term contract.

Salary: £67,674 per annum including London weighting, rising incrementally to £68,858 (pro rata) per annum including London weighting.

Flexible work policy applies, allowing working from home up to five days per fortnight.

Overview

We are looking for a policy lead to contribute to our work on employment rights and wider labour market policy.

This position has been created to boost the TUC's policy capacity at a time of significant shifts in the UK labour market.

The role will support our response to both new legislation and a rapidly changing economy.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse draft regulations and provide evidence‑based policy recommendations.
  • Write briefing materials for the General Secretary, including blogs for the TUC website and detailed responses to government consultations.
  • Evaluate and communicate a range of data sources from legal material to quantitative data.

Qualifications

  • Experience in evidence-based policy development on issues related to employment rights and/or labour markets.
  • Strong writing skills in a compelling and accessible style.
  • Confident skills in evaluating and communicating a range of data sources from legal material to quantitative data.
